At Cosmos Health, QEEG is used as part of a broader psychological and neuropsychological assessment pathway, not as a stand-alone diagnostic test or a replacement for neurological assessment.

Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) is an advanced method of analysing electrical activity in the brain, derived from standard EEG recordings. QEEG provides detailed quantitative information about brainwave patterns that can help clinicians understand how networks are functioning. In our service it is used to support psychological and neuropsychological formulation and to guide neuromodulation and therapy planning, rather than as a stand-alone diagnostic test or a replacement for clinical EEG or neurological assessment.

At Cosmos Health, located in our Southgate - London clinic, we offer MagVenture TMS Therapy® for OCD, a cutting-edge, FDA-approved treatment option.

The Power of Precision

QEEG is instrumental in our clinic for its precision in identifying and understanding the neural dynamics underlying various neurological and psychiatric conditions. By mapping brain activity, QEEG allows our team to:

  • Support Clinical Formulation: QEEG findings are combined with clinical history, examination and validated assessments to refine understanding of conditions such as ADHD, anxiety and depression. QEEG on its own does not establish or exclude a diagnosis.
  • Optimise Treatment Plans: Within our psychological and neuromodulation programmes, QEEG patterns help us tailor stimulation parameters and therapy focus while remaining aligned with the person’s wider medical care.
  • Inform Referral Decisions: Where QEEG patterns raise concern about possible neurological disease or epileptic activity, we recommend appropriate referral to a GP or neurology service for formal medical assessment.
  • Monitor Progress: Track changes and improvements in brain function over the course of treatment, ensuring the most effective therapeutic strategies are employed.

Why QEEG at Cosmos Health?

At Cosmos Health, our QEEG services are integrated into a holistic treatment framework that considers the entire spectrum of an individual's health:

  • Expert Analysis: Our specialists are highly trained in interpreting QEEG data, ensuring that each patient receives a comprehensive understanding of their brain health.
  • Integrated Care: QEEG results are used to complement other diagnostic evaluations and therapies, creating a cohesive and personalised treatment approach.
  • Continuous Innovation: We continually update our methods and technologies to incorporate the latest advancements in neuroscience research.

QEEG for Various Applications

QEEG is versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications:

  • Cognitive Enhancement: Identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses to develop personalised cognitive training programs.
  • Mental Health Management: Understand the neurobiological basis of mental health issues to improve treatment outcomes.
  • Neurofeedback Training: Use real-time EEG data to train individuals to regulate their brain activity, enhancing overall mental performance and well-being.

QEEG reporting and medico-legal use

QEEG reports produced by Cosmos Health provide EEG-derived quantitative analyses, including source estimates such as sLORETA where appropriate. These methods are analytical and probabilistic, not stand-alone diagnostic tests. The results are intended to support clinical reasoning and must be interpreted together with clinical history, examination and validated assessments by appropriately qualified clinicians. References to Brodmann areas are model-based estimates, not direct anatomical measurements. Our QEEG reports do not themselves make a medical or psychiatric diagnosis and should not be used as the sole basis for starting, stopping or changing treatment. Any medical use of the findings must be undertaken by registered healthcare providers who accept full clinical responsibility and, where applicable in England, within services that are appropriately registered with the Care Quality Commission.
